Thailand-based Miss Grand International pageant has, over the last six years, gained immense popularity to be reckoned as one of the major international beauty pageants in the world with substantial fan following and audience. The pageant, which commenced in the year 2013, held its first three editions in Bangkok, Thailand.
In the year 2016, the pageant moved out of Thailand to be held in Las Vegas, USA and the next two editions were again held in Asian countries being Vietnam and Myanmar. This year, the MGI organization has decided to take the pageant out of Asia again to be held in Venezuela. Venezuela, thus, becomes the first South American country to get the privilege to host the Miss Grand International pageant.
Venezuela, which has been marred by events of violence over the last decades, has been chosen appropriately in line with the Miss Grand’s advocacy of “STOP THE WAR”. Also, with four Latina winners of the title so far out of the six editions of the pageant held, it seems to be a good step to take the pageant to Venezuela.
Miss Grand International 2019, the 7th edition of this pageant, as per official announcement of the MGI organization, will be held this year on 25th October 2019 in Venezuela. The grand coronation night of this pageant will witness Miss Grand International 2018, Clara Sosa, handing over her reign, the crown and the advocacies to her successor at the conclusion of the finale.
MGI organization posted the announcement on their official Facebook page where they uploaded a video showing the glimpse of the host country Venezuela and captioned along with it, “’Official Announcement - Miss Grand International 2019 will be held in Venezuela on 25th October 2019.”
Interestingly, the last time the pageant was held outside Asia, an Asian won the title. In 2016, when Miss Grand International 2016 was held in Las Vegas, USA, Ariska Putri Pertiwi of Indonesia crowned as Miss Grand International 2016.
In all other five editions hosted by Asian countries, the originally crowned beauties were all Latinas - Janelee Chaparro of Puerto Rica Miss Grand International 2013, Daryanne Lees of Cuba Miss Grand International 2014, Anea Garcia of Dominican Republic Miss Grand International 2015, Maria Jose Lora of Peru Miss Grand International 2016 and Clara Sosa of Paraguay Miss Grand International 2018. Anea Garcia, though, was subsequently dethroned and was replaced by Claire Parker of Australia.
Looking at the history of the winners, simple probabilistic extrapolation will lead us to the likelihood of an Asian beauty winning the title this year when the pageant is hosted in Venezuela.
However, the Venezuelans who will be extremely excited to see one of the major international beauty pageants being hosted in their country, would no doubt expect to see a Venezuelan girl getting crowned, and there will be tremendous expectations from the Venezuelan representative to bring home the crown!
