Ever since the announcement of the 40 finalists of Binibining Pilipinas 2017, there have been all sorts of conjecture and speculation regarding the 2017 edition of the pageant. The latest one to find the room is President of Miss Grand International Organization Nawat Itsaragrisil. If rumours are to be believed, Nawat will attend the finals of Binibining Pilipinas 2017.

Miss Grand Philippines 2016 Nicole Cordoves made it as the first runner-up at the finals of Miss Grand International 2016. Since Nicole Cordoves won 1st Runner-Up at 2016 Miss Grand International, rumor has it that Mr. Nawat  has indicated he will be attending the Bb. Pilipinas 2017 coronation night together with the reigning Miss Grand International 2016  Ariska Putri Pertiwi from Indonesia.

Nawat Itsaragrisil was caught in a rumour when he was accused of forcing Miss Grand Iceland 2016 to lose weight for the finale of Miss Grand International 2016. Miss Grand International is an annual international beauty pageant held in Thailand since 2013. Bb Pilipinas started sending a representative for the Miss Grand International pageant from the year 2016. Prior to Bb Pilipinas, John dela Vega was the Philippine franchise holder of the Thailand-based pageant and the winner was named as Miss Grand Philippines.

In 2013, Bb Pilipinas 2012 second runner-up Annalie Mallari Forbes aka Ali Forbes was appointed to represent Philippines at the Miss Grand International 2013 pageant. In 2014, Karlsson was crowned Miss Grand Philippines in a crowning event held in  the GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center, in Diliman, Quezon City and eventually represented the Philippines at the 2nd edition of Miss Grand International in Thailand. However, Karlsson remained unplaced.

It was in 2015 that Stella Marquez-Araneta of Binibining Pilipinas Charities Incorporated (BPCI) acquired the local franchise of Miss Grand International, and Bb Pilipinas Tourism 2014 Parul Shah was selected to represent the Philippines at the Miss Grand International 2015 pageant, where she placed as the third runner-up.

In 2016, Nicole Cordoves technically became the first Binibini to be crowned as Binibining Pilipinas Grand International at the finals of Bb Pilipinas 2016.

According to the Organisation, this year’s edition of the Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant will give bigger score to the interview portion, a.ka. the Q&A. This has been done to keep up with the new Miss Universe format. Under the new format, the candidates will get to flaunt their ability to articulate themselves under pressure while sharing a thoughtful, well-informed response during Preliminary and Final Competition.
