Like father, like daughter. That’s true for the Filipina queen Mariel De Leon Miss International Philippines, who is following her father’s footsteps and has entered the world of cinema with her first movie, Ang Pandey. And it’s a double treat for all the lovers of beauty pageants when this International beauty is joined by her predecessor Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa while embarking her movie career. Kylie always wanted to try her hand in acting and it seemed like the perfect setting for her when she could undertake this journey with her pageant sister.
Both Mariel and Kylie are part of this movie, their first film and were recently spotted at Ayala Malls Solenad when they came together with the whole cast and crew to promote their latest adventure. It was a pleasant time for all the lovers of these two beauties as they looked spruce in red dresses. Seems, the queens like to be colour coordinated.
For Mariel it seemed the most natural choice to start her career in films as her father is also a well-known actor of the country. Though she was at first hesitant when the epic fantasy film was offered to her. "I was very intimidated, very scared, as to my limitations and expectations to myself," Mariel explained. However, the very welcoming team of "Ang Panday" made it easier for the beauty queen to face and conquer her fears.
Mariel and Kylie are true pageant sisters and they have proved it many times with their love and support for each other. Even when Mariel was not a part of the semi-finals in Miss International 2017, Kylie didn’t shy away from showing her heartbreak, “I was so sad when I saw the list of semi-finalists 'coz I was one of the judges. I saw the list without her name and I said, 'Is that right? Do not have a second list? I really did. I felt so bad that I did not go out because I knew how she was going to feel. I knew what her parents would feel, our mentors. I was having trouble coming out because of the result,” this she expressed in the context of the time when she had to make an appearance on stage for her final walk as the reigning queen.
Mariel is a positive soul who took her loss at Miss International pageant in a positive light and treated the pageant as a wonderful and unforgettable experience of her life.
