According to the results of the PREP in Tepic, the Nayarit capital, former and veteran beauty queen, Geraldine Ponce, candidate of the coalition ‘Together we will make history’, swept the votes and made history as she won the first and youngest woman Municipal Presidency of Tepic.
Geraldine Ponce Mendez, is 27 years old and represented the 2nd district of Nayarit in the Chamber of Deputies since 2018 where she is part of the Budget and Public Account, Sports and Foreign Relations committees.
The now deputy also has a degree in Business Management Engineering from the Technological Institute of Tepic. Before arriving at the Congress of the Union, she worked as a marketing advisor in the Nayarit Company Piplosa and as an assistant in the quality area in Capilálica.
Geraldine Ponce became the first municipal president of Morena in Tepic. However, her candidacy was not far from controversy, especially because of her past as a former beauty queen and the alleged misunderstandings with Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, wife of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
One of the most delicate defamations that she has had to endure, on more than one occasion, which was of having an alleged affair with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. She later indicated that all these malicious comments come from yet another campaign against him, part of a dirty war strategy. Including the alleged rivalry with the president's wife, Beatriz Rodríguez Müller.
She was also Queen of the Xalisco Elote Fair in 2012 and years later, in 2015 she participated in the Nuestra Belleza Nayarit contest, which she won and led to participate in Nuestra Belleza México in 2016. She was appointed as the Miss International Mexico 2016 and represented Mexico at Miss International 2016, where she closed within the Top 15.
After her win for the mayoralty, Geraldine took to her social media as she wrote, “This historical result is the clear sign that love will always, always conquer hatred. Effort, work, freedom, truth, dignity and honesty triumphed.I am Geraldine Ponce, I am 27 years old and thanks to your support, I will be the municipal president of this wonderful capital city, called Tepic. Long live democracy! Long live the fourth transformation!”
From beauty queen to being the first woman and the youngest candidate to reach the municipal presidency in Tepic, Geraldine has been an empowering inspiration for many to come. Congratulations to the newly appointed Municipal President and we wish her a successful reign.
