Deshauna Barber flabbergasted everyone when she took her final walk as Miss USA while wearing her natural hair. After her win, people started saying hateful things about her and criticized her that she must have used the military card for the win.
Competing in the competition of Miss Universe and dealing with fans of competitors in other countries was tough for her as she had no idea about the criticism that was coming to her internationally. A lot of people considered her ugly only because of the skin tone she has. On social media, people started sending her monkey emojis, poop emojis and tagged her in photos with apes.
Her mom always pushed her to wear natural hair but Deshauna was never comfortable and always said No as she believed that she wouldn’t be crowned as Miss USA if her hair was in a natural state. But anyhow her mother managed to push her and yes! She paid tribute to her mom by wearing her natural hair at the final night of Miss USA 2017 as she knew that it will be aired on Mother’s Day. It was a huge secret they all kept till the episode was aired.
A lot of people in the pageant world are still very old school. They believe in the traditional look and that’s what our beauty queen Deshauna believed in, and finally won the prestigious crown.
