Miss Maine USA 2020 Julia Van Steenberghe emerging as the potential winner of Miss USA 2020

The 69th edition of Miss USA i.e., Miss USA 2020 will be held during the spring of 2020. 51 delegates from all over the country will be competing for the coveted crown, after which, the winner will represent the United States at the Miss Universe 2020 competition. Miss USA 2019 Cheslie Kryst of North Carolina will crown her successor by the end of the event finale. Miss USA 2020 will mark the first year that the new crown made by luxury jeweler Mouawad will be used.

Miss USA 2020 competition boasts of immensely gorgeous and talented delegates who are preparing for their stint in the finale event. But Julia Van Steenberghe is a proud representative of Maine at the Miss USA 2020 has become the crowd’s favorite and is emerging as the potential winner for the coveted national crown.

Julia Van Steenberghe hails from Old Town was crowned Miss Maine USA 2020 on 10th November 2019 at the Portland Sheraton at Sable Oaks in South Portland. She is 21-years-old and is a Presidential Scholar at the University of Maine, majoring in both elementary education and child development and family relationships. She graduated in 2016 from Old Town High School with honors and had accomplishments during her high school career that included being class president for all four years of high school, student council president and taking part in different sports.

Van Steenberghe has worked at the UMaine recreation center for five years, works for the Admissions Office at UMaine as a tour guide and is a co-coach of the Leonard Middle School Cheering team. Growing up she delivered papers for The Penobscot Times.

Julia aspires to end childhood hunger and poverty and is passionate about helping children in all her capacities and urge people all over the world for the same. Julia has been very vocal about the issues related to hunger and poverty across her state and has urged everyone to come as a team and work towards tackling this issue. Her passion towards children and literacy has seen many organized literacy nights for local schools to help families and children improve their reading skills.

Along with being very vocal about ending hunger and poverty across state, Julia is fitness instructor at University’s office of Admissions. She teaches cycling, Pilates and HIIT cardio. She loves to travel and spend time working towards educating the future generation. According to Julia the stereotypes attached to pageants turned out to be positive for her. She explains the pageants as a healthy competition and stated that the competitor’s support for each other is commendable.

One thing that sets Julia Van Steenberghe apart is her drive to take on new challenges. Van’s initial intention for entering the pageant realm was to challenge herself both physically and mentally. Pageants had not been a part of Van Steenberghe’s life until last year when she participated in her first pageant ever, Miss Maine USA 2019 and won first runner-up. After winning first runner-up, Van Steenberghe became inspired to run again in 2020. “I wanted to be a voice and an inspiration to others proving that a person can achieve personal goals, no matter what they are,” Van explained.

Julia Van Steenberghe explained that “I learned the direct correlation between one’s mental and physical health. The physical preparation taught me the importance of balance. The mental preparation allowed me to grow as an individual and become sure of who I am and what I stand for”, when asked about her preparation for Miss USA 2020.

Julia’s dedication and hard work for the title of Miss USA 2020 is clearly shown and her positive attitude towards approaching to things she wants is commendable. She has always been very self-assured that wants to win the title and would give her best shot to win it.
