A lot has been said about the upcoming Miss Universe 2016 pageant. Rumour Mills have been active on speculating the venue of Miss Universe 2016 pageant. While many are claiming that the pageant will not be held in the Philippines, the Department Of Tourism rubbishes the rumours. Amidst all the controversies, the reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach assured her fans to wait for an official announcement about the rumours stating that the upcoming Miss Universe pageant in Manila scheduled for January 2017 has been cancelled.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News' MJ Felipe, Pia said, "I understand how people could easily jump to that conclusion because everybody's waiting for an announcement. But you know, we also talk about other things."

Pia had previously said that she wants to crown her successor in Philippines. She further said, "We're working very hard in making [Miss Universe in the Philippines] happen. Please bear us. Very soon, I promise, we will have an announcement."

“Unless there’s a final announcement from the Miss Universe Organization (MUO), I can’t say that it’s happening or not,” she added.

Few days ago, Department of Tourism chief Wanda Teo also confirmed that the forthcoming Miss Universe will be held in Manila. But the rumours about the cancellation of the Miss Universe 2016 pageant haven’t settled down yet, due to lack of any sort of official announcement from the Miss Universe Organisation.

A recent article by the Philippine Daily Inquirer stated that the recent outburst of President Rodrigo Duterte against US President Barack Obama might be the reason for all these speculations. Whatever the reason maybe, we are eagerly waiting for an official announcement by the Miss Universe Organisation about the schedule and venue.
