Thuzar Wint Lwin was crowned Miss Universe Myanmar 2020 on 30th December 2020 at Novotel Max Hotel, Yangon, and earned her chance to represent Myanmar at the 69th edition of Miss Universe which was held on 16th May 2021. Thuzar Wint Lwin finished the event in the Top 21 and shared on social media, "I'm blessed to get into the top 21 and National Costume winner. "Thank you very much for all of your support. "

Thuzar is fondly called, ‘Queen of Democracy’ for her active participation and raising her voice about the situation in Myanmar. During the national costume competition, Thuzar appeared on-stage with a scroll that read, "Pray for Myanmar." Thuzar's original national costume was lost during shipping, but her countrymen in the US provided her with a beautiful outfit that paid tribute to Myanmar women's weaving skills and is an image of an admirable and courageous Myanmar lady. She eventually won the Best in National Costume award at the end of the event finale.

Thuzar had mentioned the situation in Myanmar in her video for the competition, "Our people are dying and being shot by the military every day. I would like to urge everyone to speak about Myanmar. As Miss Universe Myanmar since the coup, I have been speaking out as much as I can. " Thuzar Wint Lwin has expressed solidarity with protesters opposed to Myanmar's military junta, which seized power in a February coup.

Now, after the competition is over, there has been speculation that the Myanmar beauty will not be able to travel back to her country as according to sources there is an arrest warrant issued by the Burmese Authorities after Thuzar departed for the United States. She is currently in Florida but no other information has been revealed but the sources have claimed that it is not safe for Thuzar to travel to Myanmar to see the situation there and she should rather stay in the United States for her safety. The organization of Miss Universe is also yet to comment on Thuzar’s situation, but the pageant community believes that the organization will help the diva to stay safe and secure.

Thuzar handed out water bottles to protesters in Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city, and donated her savings to families whose loved ones were killed. Before leaving for the United States, she watched anxiously to see if her name had ended up on the military’s wanted list. She saw reports of well-known people being detained as they tried to leave the country, so she decided to wear a hoodie and glasses to keep from being recognized at the Yangon airport. "I had to pass through immigration and I was so scared," she said in an interview from Florida. She had also mentioned that she fears going back to Myanmar.

Miss Grand Myanmar 2020 Han Lay, who recently represented Myanmar at Miss Grand International 2020, was also equally scared to return to her country as she took the grand stage to raise her voice for the people of Myanmar, and soon the news of the arrest warrant followed. Han is currently in Thailand because the Miss Grand International organization believed that it might not be safe for her to travel to Myanmar until the situation in the country changes.

She was given the stage to bring the attention of the people towards the inhuman situation in Myanmar and said, "The people of Myanmar, they are working on the streets for democracy. I am also the one who is rooting for democracy on the stage right now...I want to say here that, please help Myanmar. We need your urgent international help right now. "

We are waiting for more information on the situation and till then #PrayForMyanmar and Thuzar Wint Lwin’s safety.
