Fondly called as ‘Queen of Democracy’, Thuzar Wint Lwin aka Candy Thuzar has been in the limelight for quite a while for her active participation and raising her voice about the situation in Myanmar. Thuzar finished at the Miss Universe 2020 in the Top 21 finalists.

During the national costume competition in the recently concluded 69th Miss Universe, Thuzar appeared on-stage with a scroll that read, ‘Pray for Myanmar.’ Thuzar's original national costume was lost during shipping, but her countrymen in the US provided her with a beautiful outfit that paid tribute to Myanmar women's weaving skills and is an image of an admirable and courageous Myanmar lady. She eventually won the Best in National Costume award at the end of the event finale.

After the competition, there had been speculations that the beauty from Myanmar will not be able to travel back home because of the conflict in her country as she was rumored to have an arrest warrant against her issued by the Burmese Authorities. The speculations were the result of her presence in the protests that happened in Myanmar. Thuzar handed out water bottles to protesters in Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city, and donated her savings to families whose loved ones were killed.

It was only a few hours ago that Candy was warmly welcomed by Myanmar citizens who live in Indianapolis, US and it was confirmed that for the time being she has received asylum protection where she will now live and work as a model. She will stay in the US as a refugee and will work as a part time model and will also help the Burmese communities in America.

Similarly, Miss Grand International Organization had helped out Miss Grand Myanmar 2020 Han Lay few months go by arranging for her a safe stay in Thailand as she was also equally scared to return to her country as she took the grand stage to raise her voice for the people of Myanmar. Han is currently in Thailand because the Miss Grand International organization believed that it might not be safe for her to travel to Myanmar until the situation in the country changes.

While the news has brought some relief for Candy’s followers, the community has been pouring in prayers for her family back home in Myanmar. We are waiting for more information on the situation and till then we pray for Myanmar and both the queens’ family and safety.
