Miss Universe New Zealand 2017 finale is scheduled to be held on 12th August 2017, and 20 gorgeous beauties from all around New Zealand are vying for the prestigious chance to represent New Zealand at Miss Universe 2017 pageant. While the pageant and the contestants are surely creating buzz, there is yet another reason why the pageant is making news, the involvement of Filipino designer Sidney Eculla.
During the evening gown round of the Miss Universe NZ 2017, the contestants will parade in Sidney’s gowns. On top of that, Sidney will also be designated as the gown designer for New Zealand's delegate at the Miss Universe 2017 pageant. It all started when during the Miss Universe 2016 contest, which was held in the Philippines, Miss Universe NZ CEO Nigel Godfrey visited Glorietta mall and just passed on Edgar Allan boutique in Glorietta 1 Makati where Sidney has an RTW line. Godfrey was so impressed by the designs that he got in touch with Eculla and hence the contract.
Eculla had created pageant gowns in the past – once during the Miss Philippines Earth 2011 pageant for Brenna Gamboa, and then with Joselle Mariano in 2014. Both of them won the Best in Evening Gown award. Currently, Sidney is in Phuket, Thailand with the Miss Universe New Zealand finalists for a week-long retreat and fittings.
The contestants are having a great time in Phuket, as they are not only enjoying the scenic beauty, but are also trying various adventure sports.
