The Inspirational life journey of Miss Universe Thailand 2022 Anna Sueangam-iam

02 Aug 2022 | Priya Bhardwaj

Anna Sueangam-iam was crowned Miss Universe Thailand 2022 on 30th July 2022 at True Icon Hall in Bangkok where she bested twenty-nine delegates to win the national crown. Anna will now begin to prepare to represent Thailand at Miss Universe 2022, which will be held later this year.

Anna Sueangam-iam’s life journey is nothing less than inspirational. As a child, she played with toys that her parents found in the trash because they worked as garbage collectors for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration in Bangkok. She went to Mahannaparam School in Bangkok. Anna completed a bachelor’s in arts with honours from Kasetsart University.

At the finale night, during the question and answer round, When asked what she would do to boost the morale of people suffering across the world, Anna said, “You’re not the only ones facing despair. I used to be in despair too. We learn from our troubles to adapt and survive. I would call on all of you to have confidence in yourselves and rise to fight again. If I can, so can you.”

She looked at her problems in the eye and decided to make a better life for herself. Not being knocked out by problems is what Anna’s motto is and she has made sure that she rises above them every time. Despite winning the crown, Anna came in sixth with just 3.2 per cent of the public votes on the Miss Universe Thailand website.

Even during her participation at Miss Universe Thailand 2022, there was a general speculation was that she would not win the crown because she is not “luk khrueng” (half Thai). “I saw such comments. Some members of my team showed them to me, but I didn’t feel anything. I think I will do my best. I think being luk khrueng or not is not the main criteria to being chosen as Miss Thailand Universe”, she responded.

Even through all the hardships, Anna made her way on her own. In 2018, she was crowned Miss Mobile Thailand 2018. She is Miss Thinn Thai Ngarm 2020 second runner-up. In 2020, she competed at Miss Thailand 2020 at the Chiang Mai International Exhibition and Convention Centre in Mueang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai, Thailand but did not make it to the Top 5. This year, defeating pageant veterans such as Nicolene and Renita, Anna became a crowd-favourite and the winner of the competition.
