Swelia Da Silva Antonio crowned Miss Universe Angola 2022

Miss Universo Angola 2022 (aka Miss Universe Angola), the 25th edition of the national pageant, was held on 6th August 2022 in Benguela where crowd favourite Swelia Da Silva Antonio was crowned the new queen. She will now represent Angola at Miss Universe 2022.

Swelia Da Silva Antonio is an Afro-Dutch beauty queen who hails from The Hague, Netherlands. Her family is originally from Angola. In 1999, she and her family moved from Angola to the Netherlands.

 

 

Swelia earned her bachelor’s degree in nonprofit, public and organizational management from The Hague University of Applied Sciences. In 2021, she earned her master’s degree in public administration from the International Institute of Social Studies of the Erasmus University Rotterdam in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Not new to the pageantry, Swelia was selected as a Miss Africa Netherlands 2017 candidate, but she was not able to participate in the competition. In 2020, Swelia was crowned Miss Supranational Netherlands 2020 in Amsterdam, Netherlands at the age of 23.

While reigning as Miss Supranational Netherlands 2020-2021, Swelia served as an ambassador of education for the Black Ladies Talk organization. Swelia represented the Netherlands at Miss Supranational 2021 on 21st August 2021 in Poland and finished in the Top 12.

 

 

The contestants who competed at Miss Universo Angola 2022 were Victoria Carlos (Belux), Guinilda Barata (Bengo), Maria André (Benguela), Yasser Coimbrã (Bie), Bernadete Macosso (Cabinda), Bela Munguli (Cuando Cubango), Nelma Tchissola (Cuanza Norte), Cristina Carvalho (Cuanza Sul), Swelia António (Holanda), Jacira Saiombo (Huambo), Pamela Serrão (Huila), Airania Dias (Luanda), Djauria Domingos (Lunda Norte), Isabela Beca (Lunda Sul), Esperança dos Santos (Malanje), Olímpia João (Moxico), Joelcia Quiuma (Namibe), Márcia Quipaca (Namibe), Surrender Pedro (R. Bie), Diana Mingas (R. Moxico), Eliane Cavelho (R. Namibe), Vânia Vasconcelos (R. Zaire), Jandira Monteiro (Uige), Teresa Sara (Zaire).

Currently, Angola has four Miss Universe placements including the coronation of Leila Lopes in 2011. Representing the African country, Ana José Sebastião and Telma de Jesus Sonhi finished in the Top 15 in 2003 and 2004, respectively, while Micaela Reis finished in the Top 10 in 2007.
