Miss World Nigeria 2019 Nyekachi Douglas didn’t win Miss World 2019 held on 14th December 2019 but she surly did win everyone’s hearts by expressing her magnanimous happiness over Miss World Jamaica 2019 Toni-Ann Singh’s crowning moment.
During the final round of competition, three women remained on the stage waiting for the results to be announced - Miss World Nigeria 2019 Nyekachi Douglas, Miss World Brazil 2019 Elis Coelho and Miss World Jamaica 2019 Toni Ann Singh. When Miss Jamaica 2019 was announced as the winner of the title, she seemed over-whelmed but it was all well when Nyekachi Douglas became the biggest cheerleader for her friend. She jumped up in the air, did her happy dance and congratulated Miss Jamaica 2019 Toni Ann Singh for the win.
Nyekachi Douglas is 21 years old and a River State representative that hails from a local government area known as Emohua in Nigeria. She is a freelance model and has worked in the fashion industry before she stated training for the pageant. During her question and answer round with Piers Morgan, Nyekachi mentioned that she did use wig for the competition but decided to go all natural as her wig fell off while rehearsing for the dance and she felt relieved.
After the pageant, when she was asked about her reaction, Douglas stated, ‘I’m sure people thought I thought I won, but I was just so happy for her. She was amazing. Nyekachi displayed immense confidence in the sense that she was secure enough to show her support for another female’s success. She is now being looked up as a friend that everyone needs.
In her live video after the competition, Douglas said Singh was ‘amazing’ and was also a big supporter of her fellow contestants. Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett stated that he will be collaborating with the Culture and Gender Affairs Minister Olivia Grange to invite Nyekachi Douglas and Suman Rao to Jamaica at the earliest possible time.
