18 Jun 2022 | Angelique Reyes

Gwendolyne Fourniol of Negros Occidental was crowned Miss World Philippines 2022 on 5th June 2022 as she will now represent Philippines at Miss World 2022. The diva, being a pageant newbie, has been receiving a lot of criticism around her election as the new queen, but like a true queen, Gwen has been handling it with inspiring optimism.

In a recent interview, she said, “People can criticize me and I take that as an improvement of myself. The criticism for me is positive, I better myself with those.” Aware of not being the top choice of the people for the national title, she shared, “I think many people didn’t expect to be the next Miss World Philippines, but on that stage that night I gave it my all, and all the hard work paid off.”

There will always be naysayers but the 22 year old queen recently shared a very optimistic message to the detractors, “I do not need to explain myself, as a beauty queen. Those detractors make me strong. They elevate me. Their criticisms do not hurt me. I want to be a role model to everybody that you should not be affected with other people’s judgment. How can you be happy if you are depending on their judgments?”

Fourniol succeeds and was crowned by Miss World Philippines 2020 Tracy Maureen Perez, who represented the country at Miss World 2021 and was highly appreciated for her performance throughout the journey as she finished among the Top 13 finalists. Gwen will now prepare for her international stint at the Miss World platform for the upcoming 71st edition scheduled to be held later this year.
