Through online voting and the decision taken by the jury, Oksana Barkhatova has been crowned as the new Miss Azerbaijan. She will now represent her country at the Miss Universe 2016 pageant to be held in Philippines in January next year. The winner will be crowned by the reigning Miss Universe, Pia Wurtzbach of Philippines.

First runner-up in the same pageant was Jeyhun Aliyev who will participate at Miss Intercontinental 2016;Gunel Mammadova was the second runner-up and will represent her country at the Top Model of the World 2016. At the same event, Parviz Khalilov was chosen as Mister Azerbaijan 2016.
Oksana has been an Economics student and works as a model. Though, originally from Moscow, Russia, she has been residing in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The beauty contest is being held in Azerbaijan since 1996. Aysel Manafova was the first Miss Azerbaijan to compete in Miss Universe in 2013. No Miss Azerbaijan has ever placed in Miss Universe. Will Oksana create history? Only time will tell. We just hope she gears up for the preparation and give her nation a reason to celebrate next year in January. Cheers to the beautiful Oksana!
