It seems that the Miss Universe controversy is not going to end soon. After the fiasco which happened during the coronation night, Colombians are unable to overcome the humiliation caused by Ariadna’s mistaken crowning. A Colombian named, Noider Almanza Barraza from San Felipe, Baranquilla, took to Facebook on Jan' 1, Friday, to show how he burned Miss Universe 2015, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach's effigy on New Year's Eve.

The Colombian posted a video which depicts the Colombians setting fire to a dummy dressed in blue with a made-up crown, and Philippines sash, alongside Harvey’s dummy dressed in a tuxedo. The effigies were allegedly burned due to the mix-up of winners in the Miss Universe 2015 pageant held in Las Vegas late December, where Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez was mistakenly crowned as Miss Universe, before host Harvey admitted the blunder transferring the crown and title to Miss Philippines.

Pia Wurtzbach’s Effigy Burnt in Colombia

According to 123 New Year, the Colombian tradition called Burn Año Nuevo is the process of burning an effigy in the name of the Old Year (Año Nuevo) once the clock strikes twelve. People write their faults, or any feared bad luck on a piece of paper and throw it in the burning effigy. Doing so ensures liberty from all past troubles, sins, and mistakes, as well as bad luck. While there are beliefs that the dummies were burned to “drive away bad luck” brought by Gutierrez’s loss, netizens are still dismayed by the act, some trying to understand the “tradition”, while others are just downright offended by the video.

Neither Wurtzbach nor the Miss Universe Organization has commented on the video yet. Meanwhile, Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez lately talked about the mishap involving Steve Harvey announcing the wrong winner during the Miss Universe 2015 coronation night. In an interview with Colombia's W Radio on Dec. 30, 2015, Gutierrez said: "I was disconnected. I haven't received phone calls from almost anyone. Very few people have communicated with me. That's because I had to grieve for what happened." For Gutierrez, the Miss Universe 2015 mishap was handled erroneously. She revealed: "They did not do things the right way. They could have done it, I don't know, the next day in a press conference or a press release." Ariadna Gutierrez also said she managed to make history, which for her is more important than winning the Miss Universe title.
