Gabriella Deyi of Madison was crowned Miss Wisconsin USA 2020 on 8th September 2019. The coronation ceremony was held at Fond du Lac High School Performing Arts Center. She succeeds Miss Wisconsin USA 2019 Danika Tramburg of Richfield. Gabby will represent Wisconsin for the title of Miss USA 2020 during spring of 2020.

Gabriella is 27-years-old. She is a television broadcast journalist and personality in Wisconsin. Before pursuing her dreams of becoming a journalist, Gabby was a research scientist. She received her undergraduate degree in the sciences and immediately pursued graduate work after graduation. After a year in labs and seminars, she realized her mind was not at peace and she was not genuinely happy with the path she had taken. She immediately left her graduate program and job to pursue what she wanted to do since she was a little girl; journalist. She consistently reminds people that,” If you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life”. Helping people to tell the stories of their lives with confidence is what Gabby lives for.

The diva worked very hard to achieve whatever she aimed for since she was a little girl. She explains she always had two things on her mind; to be a journalist and a beauty queen titleholder. According to Gabriella, Miss USA is important for her because it is not just a beauty pageant but it is inspirational, graceful, and passionate platform that provides the diva to pursue their dreams and support causes they desire throughout the year. Gabriella participated in a beauty contest for Miss California USA but unfortunately was never placed. With some support and motivation from her best friend, she participated in Miss Wisconsin USA 2020 and to her lucky stars, she won.

The diva explained, “Winning my state title, brought so much opportunity my way and has changed my life exponentially. One of the biggest opportunities that it gave me was the chance to tell my story of growing up in a family plagued by mental illness.” Gabriella wants to focus on mental health awareness and breaking down the stigma that comes with it. Her mother struggles with Bipolar 1 disorder and her younger brother battles with clinical depression. She has learned so much from being the daughter and sister of someone that deals with mental illness but acknowledges that she is not alone on this journey. She knows that there are many people around the world who live the same reality but are too afraid to tell their story or seek help and treatment for fear of judgment. She wants to be a voice for those who feel voiceless and credits a lot of her strength to do that, to her father. She is passionate about prioritizing and preserving her own mental health and is always encouraging others to do the same. She wants to be a part of anything she can; that will spread hope when it comes to washing away the ‘embarrassment’ that comes with mental illness.

Gabriella mentioned that it was pageantry that gave her the confidence and motivation to talk about her struggles and be a motivational role model for other people who deal with the same. She takes pride in calling herself a mental health advocate and educator for Mental Health of America today! In one of her interviews, Gabriella explained that other than advocating about mental health, she also wants to be a successful and a positive role model for women. She said, “My advice to women out there would be to not seek outside validation. In order to feel your best, and be the best, you must know you are the best. And sometimes the world can trick you into believing otherwise in many ways and from that, we tend to fall into the trap and the vicious cycle of living our lives only for the opinions of others. You must take the opinions others have of you like noise and cancel it out internally. Speaking to yourself positively, meditation, prayer, exercise, and surrounding yourself with the people in your life that feed your soul are your noise cancellation headphones and your peace.”

The diva is strong, confident, intelligent, and very determined to win the title of Miss USA 2020 and be able to represent USA at Miss Universe 2020 stage. She desires to win because she wants to make her voice heard to a lot of people and there is nothing big than Miss Universe’s stage. She pushes herself every day and lives by the motto, “Chasing your dreams is not easy by any means. It comes with a lot of sacrifice, dedication, and mistakes. Whenever those things become overwhelming. I know I can turn to them to get back into the groove and feel motivated again.”

She is a competitively trained figure skater, loves bowling, and is a self-taught indoor rock climber. She has also won several buffalo wing eating contests! Gabby won Miss Wisconsin USA on her last year of eligibility and wants all the girls and women competing in pageants to know that they “ ....should never give up - no matter how many times you are told NO - because all you really need is one YES!”.
