The video went viral and there have been comments on the same as well. But one person immediately came in support of Maxine and defended the Philippines’ bet from all the criticism. In an interview with CNN Philippines, the reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach said: "It's a mistake. It wasn't done intentionally. She honestly did not know. Are we really going to put our girl down because of a statement like that?" Wurtzbach said that although Maxine should have been careful with her facts, but at the same time people should also give her a break from all the criticism.
"We should be celebrating because she's made it so far already. This girl has been training for months and months leading up to the competition, and what she really needs now is encouragement, along with the other candidates," Pia added.
On the other hand, Maxine apologised for her mistake and said that she should have said “popularized” instead of “invented”.
