Reigning Miss Universe, Iris Mittenaere, was one of the special guests at the recently concluded Puteri Indonesia 2017 finals. Before gracing the finals, Iris had a press conference at the Summit Room of the Plenary Hall of the Jakarta Convention Center, Jakarta. During the Press Conference, she talked about her future plans, and her experience of visiting Indonesia. The beauty queen was welcomed by Puteri Indonesia Organisation and also the 2016 queen Kezia Warouw.

The Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of Puteri Indonesia Foundation, Putri K. Wardani, was also present at the Press Conference. Honouring Iris, Wardani said that the Miss Universe is the oldest and biggest beauty pageant that represents women as a whole. She also mentioned that Iris’ presence will bring Indonesia to the global platform, and the country is now on its way to establish its mark on the world map, in terms of beauty pageants.
Iris has a long list of scheduled travel, and coming to Indonesia was also one of her scheduled visit. During the interview, Iris also mentioned that bringing the Miss Universe pageant to Indonesia will bring an opportunity to tell the world that Indonesia is inferior to none, when it comes to beauty and fashion industry. Also, this will be a great way to promote the rich cultural heritage of Indonesia throughout the world.
Last year, Pia Wurtzbach was unable to attend the finals of Puteri Indonesia, due to some rumoured issues going on in the country. However, Iris said that her visit to the country will give a rest to all the rumours, and will surely ensure that the country is safe for touristry.
The gala coronation of Puteri Indonesia 2017 concluded with the crowning of Bunga Jelitha as the winner. Bunga will now represent Indonesia at the Miss Universe 2017 pageant. At the same pageant, Kevin Liliana of Jawa Barat was crowned Puteri Indonesia Lingkungan (Miss International Indonesia 2017) and Karina Nadila of Nusa Tenggara Timur was crowned Puteri Indonesia Pariwisata (Miss Supranational Indonesia 2017).
