Miss Universe is an international pageant organized annually and is one of the top two beauty pageants in the world, the other being Miss World. Founded in the year 1952, it started as a local "bathing beauty" competition organized by Catalina Swimwear in Long Beach, California and since then sixty-seven editions of the pageant have been held till 2018. When Donald Trump acquired the pageant in the year 1996, it gained immense popularity among pageant lovers. Trump sold the company to the WME/IMG talent agency in 2015.

This decade, so far, two titles each were won by South American, Asian and African beauties, while one title each was won by North American and European beauties. Philippines leads the tally of maximum wins by country in this decade, with Catriona Gray (Miss Universe 2018) and Pia Wurtzbach (Miss Universe 2015). The African beauties who have won the Miss Universe title are Leila Lopes of Angola, Miss Universe 2001 and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa, Miss Universe 2017. Other titleholders of this decade are Olivia Culpo of USA (Miss Universe 2012), Gabriela Isler of Venezuela (Miss Universe 2013), Paulina Vega of Colombia (Miss Universe 2014) and Iris Mittenaere of France (Miss Universe 2016). United States of America, with the win in 2012, has managed to keep the record of maximum Miss Universe crowns (eight), while Venezuela is not far behind with seven Miss Universe titleholders after it last won the title in 2013.
