Colombia broke its drought of 56 years in 2014 as Paulina Vega was crowned the second ever Miss Universe from Colombia beating 86 other contestants. For the last four years, since then, there has been no looking back for Colombia as it has persistently performed astoundingly in Miss Universe pageant. 

With the commencement of the competition, nobody really thought that this simple girl from Colombia would do such wonders and make history. But as the perfect underdog, she paved her way into the competition with grace and style. Paulina made sure she was the epitome of perfection as a headstrong Colombian woman throughout the competition.

A native of Barranquilla, Colombia, she was also congratulated by Shakira and Sofia Vergara who belong to the same city. Paulina who has immense love for her country worked with utter dedication throughout her reign. After her tenure, she remarked on her journey, saying, "it was madness and a lot of craziness, but it was all worth it, of course. To be an ambassador for my country worldwide was priceless. So I'm really satisfied and happy."

Paulina Vega set a benchmark for all the aspiring women of Colombia who wished to participate and win one of the most sought-after pageants around the globe.

The very next year, following in Paulina’s footsteps, Ariadna María Gutiérrez Arévalo performed exceedingly well at Miss Universe 2015. Though she ended up being the 1st runner-up in the competition, she became the most famous Miss Universe 2015 contestant for being mistakenly announced as the winner of Miss Universe 2015 by the host Steve Harvey, when actually the winner was Pia Wurtzbach from the Philippines which broke a million hearts all over Colombia.

Nonetheless, Ariadna was the epitome of poise and grace which eclipsed the whole debacle after the right winner was announced. Ariadna not only set the bar higher for the upcoming competitors but also became an overnight inspiration for all the pageant competitors all over the world. 

Ariadna has not looked back ever since. She bagged the role of Gina Roff in the movie XXX – The return of Zander Cage where she worked along with acclaimed actors like Vin Diesel and Nina Dobrev. This year, she also featured in the music video - Al Filo de Tu Amor by Carlos Vives who is one of the most celebrated singers of Colombia. 

The year 2016 was again an exceptional year for Colombia when Andrea Tovar Velasquez was crowned the 2nd runner-up at 65th Miss Universe competition in 2016 making it the consecutive third year when Colombia reached the semi-finals beating all the other leading countries.

Andrea Tovar Velasquez, better known as Andrea Tovar, is an Industrial Design and Photographic Image Production student. Andrea did not disappoint her country as she was declared as one of the favourites right from the beginning of Miss Universe 2016. She was described as beautiful, funny and a risk taker by her fellow competitors. She performed with elegance and intelligence throughout the competition and made her whole country proud.

Andrea is currently working as a professional model who is also a huge sports enthusiast. She is an active volleyball player which only adds up to her vivacious personality. She filled up her predecessors' shoes with absolute dedication and left a huge responsibility for her successors to fulfil in the upcoming pageants.

Miss Universe 2017 saw Colombia outshine again for the fourth time in a row among the 92 countries that participated in the much-coveted pageant. This time it was Laura Gonzalez Ospina who made Colombia proud by being the first runner-up in Miss Universe 2017. Her performance in the pageant was just effortless.

Laura Gonzales has strived hard in developing her skills in theatre, short films, and television since she was 16 years old. She believes in staying fit and practices yoga and Pilates in daily life. For Colombia, Laura came as a blessing in disguise as she lived upto her predecessor’s expectations. Laura was a consistent performer at Miss Universe 2017 and thereby she became everyone’s top pick in the competition right at the beginning. She has, without a doubt, created her own space in the entertainment industry as she participated in the TV series La Cacica where she played the role of young Chechi.

Colombia has had the best four years at Miss Universe from 2014 till now. There is no denying the fact that this country is filled with talent and beauty to its brim and is in no way going to stop their walk towards dominance in the pageant world.
