22 Dec 2019 | Angelique Reyes

With 2019 coming to an end the beauty pageants that were hosted in the various countries saw the immense hard work, dedication and passion by their delegates for the win. The Big pageants including Miss World 2019, Miss Universe 2019, Miss Earth 2019, Miss International 2019, Miss Grand International 2019 and Miss Supranational 2019 saw delegates from all over the globe coming together under a roof to show not only their talent but their yearning to do something for the world. These beauty pageants give the beautiful talented women a platform where they can talk about advocacy and urge the people to help them change the world even if it’s a small step.

Specially, Thailand has bewildered every one with its delegates’ performance in every pageant. The divas of Thailand dominated two out of 4 major pageants winning Miss International 2019 and Miss Supranational 2019 for their country. The country surely raised some bars at the competition as its delegates performed exceedingly well during the preliminaries and the finale show.

It's something that has been lacking in young girls and women for a very long time, not because we don't want to but because of what society has labelled women to be. I think we are the most powerful beings in the world and that we should be given every opportunity and that is what we should be teaching these young girls, to take up space, nothing is as important as taking up space in society and cementing yourself, thank you.’ After winning the title, Tunzi opened up about how she was asked to done a wig for the competition but she went with her natural hair. Her official headshot for the pageant stole the spotlight after her profile was added to the Miss Universe website. She has used the platform to talk about the gender-based violence. How would you convince them of the seriousness of this problem?” Nellys answered the question very impressively “I would have to say that addressing this issue of people not believing in climate change is more of a matter of lack of education and not only a lack of education but also the ignorance and not wanting to inform themselves of the fact that we are living in a planet that is our biggest home, and we have taken advantage of it instead of putting back what it is giving to us.” For Nellys, becoming Miss Earth 2019 means gaining a bigger voice to address environmental issues in a way that create change. It means becoming the first of her country to have won this pageant and make Puerto Rico proud and the first country to own all crowns of the grand slam. Nellys will now spend her year traveling and working for the cause of the Miss Earth organization which is to protect and preserve our planet.
