On 3rd December 2011, Olga Álava of Ecuador was crowned as the Miss Earth 2011. Olga is also a spokesperson for the protection of the natural reserve of Yasuní. After winning the title, Álava toured several Asian cities before arriving in Ecuador. Before Miss Earth 2011, Olga competed at Reina Hispanoamericana in 2011 and was titled as the second runner-up. During the Q&A round of Miss Earth 2011 finale, when Olga was asked, “Why the candidates chose education as the environmental initiative that world leaders should prioritize?” She said, “Education is the best solution for the environment because children are those who have to preserve the Earth for future generations.”
