Hil Yesenia Hernández won the Miss Earth 2006 crown and became the first Chilean woman to do so. Hailing from Castro, Hil was raised by her mother after the death of her father when she was very young. She stepped into pageantry at the age of 20 years when she represented Chile in Miss Model of the World 2004 preceded by her participation in Miss World Chile 2003 where she was one of the finalists. She competed in Miss Earth Chile 2004 and ended up as the first runner up. She again tried her hand in Miss Earth 2005 and this time won the coveted crown and the opportunity to represent Chile in Miss Earth 2005. Her victory marked the second time when Chile won the major international beauty title, 19 years after the Cecilia Bolocco won Miss Universe 1985. Hernandez worked for a lot of environmental causes and proved herself worthy of the title she got. On the work front, Hil, now, is a Chilean journalist and even after 14 years of her crowning works for the welfare of the environment.
